Homes are getting Smarter: The Smart Home Progress

Smart Homes market revenue for 2013 was $7.19 billion, U.S. dollars. Statista projects that the market will grow to $22.4 billion U.S. dollars by 2020, at a compound annual growth rate of 17.62%.

Smart Homes market revenue for 2013 was $7.19 billion, U.S. dollars.  Statista projects that the market will grow to $22.4 billion U.S. dollars by 2020, at a compound annual growth rate of 17.62%.

That is a very healthy growth rate and one of the reasons for that rate is that Americans with children at home want smart home technology "at almost double the rate of those without children".  As per a Coldwell Banker Real Estate & CNET survey more than 1 in 4 Americans own smart home devices.  Those Americans with children at home were also willing to pay more for a home with smart technology.

If you have a smart phone and children at home, the move to smart home devices is easy.  According to the survey 76% of Americans with smart home devices control them using their smart phone.

In 2011 Google announced the launch of Android@Home with the plan to link household devices to their Android platform.  The first Android smart phone was introduced in 2008.  Android@home fizzled, but it was the impetus to the smart home revolution.

Thermostats and lights were the start of smart devices which has grown now to include dishwashers, hot tubs or a coffee maker.  Getting all these "Smart Devices" linked is what makes a "Smart Home".  Thomas Ricker has a great article, First Click: Don't confuse smart devices with a smart home.

Let's finish with two ultimate Smart Home videos that will blow your mind.  Both are produced by Corning:  A Day Made of Glass and the second video A Day Made of Glass 2.

Best Places to Raise Kids

If you have kids you might be curious where the best place is to raise them. I was raised in Burly, Idaho. I have loved raising my family in Wallsburg. My daughter is starting to raise her family on the east coast. There are a lot of great places to raise your family. According to realtor.com the best states to live in are Utah, Texas, Georgia and California. These 4 states  have the most moms and kids under 18.

Utah is the number one mom state. There is the largest percentage of mothers with children in Utah than anywhere else in the country.

Texas is number two with Georgia ranked number three and California taking fourth.

Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert Tickets

Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert Tickets - Will you get them?

Starting Saturday October 24 at 12:01am through Monday November 2 at 11:59 pm you can request Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert tickets. The Christmas Concert will be performed December 17,18 and 19.

If you have not tried to get tickets to the Christmas concert before let me explain how it works. You request tickets from October 24 -  November 2. You select your preferred performance date and time. A couple of weeks later you will be notified if you will receive tickets. The tickets will be mailed to you.

Why is this such a process? With guest performers such as Santino Fontana, Deborah Voight, John Rhys-Davies, and Alfie Boe ("Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables), the demand for tickets is so great that there is a random drawing to receive tickets.

Tom Brokaw tells the story of Gail Halvorsen (The Candy Bomber) during the 2012 Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. With the Orchestra at Temple Square and the Choir providing musical accompaniment, Brokaw chronicles Halvorsen’s efforts to share candy and gum with the children of war-torn Germany.

Have you received tickets before? Who preformed with the choir when you went and how would you rank the performance?

"If music be the food of love; play on" William Shakespeare

Enjoy!!
